John Wick Chapter 3 locks down a 2019 release date

If you’d told me a few years ago that one of my absolute favorite movies was going to be a Keanu Reeves action movie, there’s no way I would’ve believed you. And now here we are, eagerly awaiting the third movie in the John Wick series. While we’re not done waiting, we now know when to expect John Wick: Chapter 3.

Lionsgate says we can look forward to the ultra-brutal shoot’em up dropping on May 17, 2019. It seems like a long way off, but it’ll be worth the wait if the last two Wick flicks are any indication.

These movies are good money

The first Wick pic made $88 million worldwide off of an estimated $20 million budget, and went on to rake in tons of cash on Blu-ray and VOD services. The sequel ended up pulling in $171.5 million worldwide. It seems like these relatively low-budget action movies are turning into something like the way Hollywood handles horror movies. Liam Neesons has been doing movies like Taken for years, and John Wick essentially revived Keanu’s public image. Jackie Chan’s revenge movie The Foreigner looks like a new turn for him after decades of more or less goofy and happy action movies.

Little is known about John Wick: Chapter 3. The primary cast and crew are confirmed to return. Keanu Reeves, of course, will star. Writer Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first two movies in the series, returns for the third, as does director Chad Stahelski.

We can’t wait to see John Wick: Chapter 3 when it hits theaters in May 2019.
