Check out 40 terrifying images from Stephen King’s IT before the movie hits theaters

Early media screenings have seemingly confirmed the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s IT is a resounding success. Not only does it sound like it’s “scary as shit,” but it’s supposedly very funny, too.

That’s a recipe that could put IT on a course for a healthy opening weekend, which is great news for the beloved horror property. If it’s both a critical and commercial success, it could mean that all these remakes and reboots don’t have to be bad.

If you’ve never read the book or seen the 1990 miniseries, IT follows a group of outcast preteens—aka The Losers—who are terrorized by a shape-shifting entity known as Pennywise the Clown. The evil awakens every three decades, and has been responsible for the disappearance of dozens of children throughout the years.

For all you fans who caught Stranger Things fever, IT looks to have that feeling of nostalgia brimming from every well-crafted scene. (There’s even an actor from Stranger Things, Finn Wolfhard, in the film.) Bonus points for the theater marquee, which has showtimes for 1989’s Lethal Weapon 2.

Once you watch IT, you’ll never look at clowns, yellow rain jackets, and red balloons the same way again. Check out the gallery above to get your fill of IT before the movie hits theaters on September 8.
