Grand Theft Auto is looking to compete with PUBG, and I doubt this is the last we’ll see of this effort.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a big flippin’ deal. It recently dethroned Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: GO on Steam’s concurrent players chart. It’s making tons of money, and it’s easily the hottest online game going right now.
Heck, the older, non-video game playing folks in my book club (yes, I’m in a dang book club, big whoop) even know about it. That’s nuts.
Back to Grand Theft Auto and GTA Online. Rockstar’s cash cow has surely seen a reduction in its playerbase with the meteoric rise of PUBG. So, they’ve come up with Motor Wars, a battle royale mode of their own.
NEW ADVERSARY MODE: MOTOR WARS
Blending the adrenaline rush of Drop Zone with the claustrophobic tension of a match of Penned In, this brutal Adversary Mode is a deadly scavenger hunt where second place is not an option. Up to four teams parachute into a periodically shrinking kill box strewn with a lethal assortment of guns, explosives and Weaponized Vehicles. Work together, find a vehicle, and fight opposing teams and the shrinking map to survive and win.
A shrinking map, you say? Where have I seen that before?
When Gears of War 2 launched forever ago, it included Horde Mode. That was the first Horde Mode we’d ever seen, though that PvE mode has pretty much made its way into every single multiplayer shooter I can think of, from Halo to specific Overwatch events.
Will battle royale similar to PUBG follow suit? I think it will.
