Sony’s PlayStation VR is getting a price cut.
The price reduction is coming in two packages: a new $399 core package and $449 bundle with more peripherals included.
The $399 core package comes with the headset and now the PlayStation Camera. Previously, the cheaper PSVR set only included the headset and still cost $399, with the Camera being sold separately for $59. But to use the PSVR set you needed to purchase camera, so consumers ended up having to purchase the camera anyway.
The more expensive $449 bundle comes the with headset, two PlayStation Move controllers and the game PlayStation Worlds.
Sony announced the PlayStation VR last year and put it on sale in October. Since then, the the virtual reality headset has sold over 1 million units.
With the complete bundle dropped down to $449, the PlayStation VR is now cheaper than the Oculus Rift, which saw a price reduction of its own earlier this year down to $499.
The initial VR wave didn’t fully take off as each set required a lot of peripherals, such as a high-end PC or game system to run the virtual reality headset. The most successful of the bunch has been Sony’s PlayStation VR, and that will continue with the competitive pricing.
