Defenders get a Friends-style intro and it’s glorious

It’s been just over a week since The Defenders’ first season became available to stream on Netflix. Reaction has been mixed at best, but we weren’t too fond of it ourselves. What we can all agree is that the intro was really weak, and it would have greatly benefited from featuring a Friends-like intro.

And that’s exactly what we got from Erin Leigh and his fantastic mash-up of scenes of the series set to the music, tone and text from the intro for Friends. It is comically awesome.

Obviously, this is just a tongue-in-cheek parody, given how terse and un-charismatic the Defenders actually are, but that just makes it that much funnier. The intro is intercut with scenes of the original trailer, with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist fighting off low-level Hand baddies.

Even the intro title for the Defenders features the classic Friends scribble typeface and colorful dots. The main cast’ names—Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones—is also displayed in the same way while montages of them play out.

Probably the best part of this intro is that it’s so much better than the one the series uses. That one uses the normal neo-noir intro all the other series uses but with an even more boring score. Our favorite is still the Daredevil blind justice and blood intro.

You can say we aren’t easily entertained, and this 45-second intro certainly did. The Defenders are there for you.
