Finl Fantasy XV already has enough crazy ideas to the point where it might not even need mod support. However, because Director Hajime Tabata is a man of the modern world, he realizes the importance of a healthy mod scene and promises to include it in the upcoming PC release.
Tabata confirmed Final Fantasy XV’s mod support in a recent interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
I think one of the biggest things [PC] players can expect is mod support. We definitely want to do it. We haven’t actually managed to get our full modding policy or discussions on that finished but at the moment we do really want to do it. We’ll have the full details around autumn time.
He says that Square Enix is still in the process of considering when mod support will be available, and it is looking at how to make them “as free as possible.”
I think a lot of people do want the mods as free as possible and with as few limitations from our side as possible, so we are going to look into making that the kind of system we have for the mods, so we’ll have to figure out all the technical terms around that.
But please… no nudie mods
In a seperate interview at Gamescom, Tabata aired out Square Enix’s worries about players who will make the inevitable naked mods.
When we were getting together for discussion, all the people together in the project were airing out their worries, [nude mods] were something most people were really worried about.
But Tabata also chimed in and said that once you buy the game, it’s yours to do what you want with.
What’s stronger in my mind is the fact that I don’t want to limit people too much – this is part of the culture of gaming these days. These people – it’s a thing they’ve bought, it’s their game now.
I don’t think it’s a good thing, but we’re going to leave it to the moral sense of all the players out there. I basically want, as a principle, to give as much freedom and as little limitations on it as possible.
Wahoo! Final Fantasy XV will be released for the PC in early 2018.
