Before BioShock came around on the Xbox 360, console gamers had a very different view of the first-person shooter genre. No PlayStation 2 or Xbox game had really explored the “thinking man’s” shooter like PCs had done at that point, and their owners couldn’t really imagine beyond the likes of TimeSplitters 2, Red Faction, and Halo. All fabulous games, mind you, but they are all games that focused directly on the shooting mechanics and less on the potential systems you can prop up shooting mechanics with.
That’s where BioShock came in. In 2007, it changed the way console gamers look at the first-person shooter, and in 2017, it remains a modern classic, one of the first from the HD generation.
BioShock 10th Anniversary Collector’s Edition will celebrate the ten years since its monumental launch with a sick Big Daddy figure that you might not be able to afford. For $199.99, 2K Games will be offering an “extremely limited” number of these editions for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
In the decade since that first bathysphere ride 18 fathoms under the sea, your support has blown us away. From the stories you’ve shared to the fan art you’ve created to the insanely creative, intricate and detailed cosplay projects you concocted – your passion humbles us even now. For that alone, we owe the whole BioShock community our thanks.
