You can now make call through Google Home, free of charge

Google mentioned phone call functionality was coming to Google Home at I/O earlier this year, and it is starting to make good on its promise by pushing out the feature to all U.S. and Canada users.

Google Home will be able to make phone calls to numbers in your contacts or businesses listed in Google Maps for free. A simple command like “Call dad” will direct Google Assistant to call that contact. The feature will also combine Google’s Contact knowledge and new multi-user support on Google Home to dial the correct person.

Calls form Google Home will show up as “Unknown” or “No Caller ID.” Google is promising the ability to display your primary number, but that won’t be available until later in the year. It will only be available out of the gate to Google Project Fi users or Google Voice numbers.

The update is slowly rolling out to users, but you can expect it very soon.
