No character in video gaming has undergone more critique and reinterpretation than Luigi has over the past two decades. Once nothing more than a palette swap for Mario, the younger brother is now the emotional kitchen sink for Mario’s one-note sense of justice.
Luigi… he’s terrified of ghosts, is the victim of many physical gags, secretly has inferiority issues with his brother’s fame, and is a stone cold killer when it comes to kart racing. All these traits, and more, have been explored in games starring Luigi over the years.
So while an insane Rabbid version of the everyman Mario is quite funny, it doesn’t strike the same chord when Luigi gets one since the character is already overwhelmed with an absurd level of depth and emotions, including physical hilarity. But still, it’s fun to see that Luigi has his own Rabbid in Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.
The Rabbid Luigi is armed with a Bworb, a sort of yo-yo device that doubles as a deadly weapon. When that doesn’t work, he can fire at a distance with his Bullenator and Stinger rocket launcher weapons for massive AOE attack. Not so subtle.
This is the second character trailer for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, the first one introducing you to this guy named Mario. I’m sure you’ve heard of him.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle will be released for the Nintendo Switch on Aug. 29.
