Samsung is close to launching a new wearable after registering the device with the FCC. It could get its official unveiling alongside the Galaxy Note 8 later this month, and we’re expecting it to be a new variant of the Gear S3, rather than a next-generation Gear S4.
Although the Gear S3 is a year old this month, and Gear S4 rumors have started circulating, Samsung’s new wearable doesn’t appear to be a brand new device. It is listed with model number SM-R600, and reads “Samsung Gear Sport” on its back in an illustration submitted to the FCC. It’s believed this is the rumored Gear S3 Sport.
We don’t know too much about the device at this point; the FCC listing doesn’t offer any juicy details. But based on earlier rumors, we expect the watch to be a more rugged version of the Gear S3 with identical internals. It could also boast enhanced water-resistance, as well as the ability to measure blood oxygen levels — a first for any smartwatch.
This is the same device that previously received Bluetooth certification. The FCC filing suggests Samsung is getting close to launching the wearable in the U.S., and it makes sense that it could be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 8 in New York on August 23.
