Seems like LawBreakers flopped at launch

LawBreakers, the shooter from the recently formed Boss Key Productions, hit this week on the PC and PlayStation 4 platforms. The game studio was founded by Cliff Bleszinski of Unreal and Gears of War fame, and he directed the title.

Out of the gate, LawBreakers isn’t doing too hot. On the day it launched, it saw only a peak of 3,000 concurrent players on the Steam platform. That result not only kept it off of any top lists, but it actually put it below the commercial failure that is Battleborn.

The number of players playing has only dwindled since, too.

Now, that’s the bad news. The good news? We live in an era where games can recover. I personally visited the Boss Key Productions studio a year or so ago specifically to see this game. This is a good multiplayer shooter with a more serious bend than something like Overwatch. This team is committed to excellence, and they’ve made a really good shooter.

It’s just that LawBreakers‘ look and feel isn’t for everyone, and the marketplace they’re looking to crack into is super crowded and has its own heavy-hitters.

I imagine Boss Key will work hard to push this thing down the hill a bit faster, so expect announcements soon. This is a premium title, and it’s selling for $29.99.
