For Honor is free this weekend as playerbase dwindles (Updated)

Earlier this summer, it was reported that For Honor from Ubisoft had seen its playerbase dwindle by 95 percent since its launch. That was back in June, so it’s likely that the pile has only shrunk since then.

To shore up the troops, Ubisoft has kicked off a free weekend for the game. In fact, it’s free right now on all platforms.

The free weekend will run until August 13, 2017.

This deal also includes a sale. From now until August 21 on consoles and August 15 on PCs, For Honor has been slashed to 50 percent off. That means it’s going for $29.99 during this sale.

If you try the game and like it, you’ll be able to buy it at a discount and keep your progress. If you have some free time this weekend, give it a shot. Ubisoft has been hard at work trying to respond to community feedback, and the word is that the game is in a better state compared to its February launch.

I tried the title, but it wasn’t for me. It did feel like a good game, though.

Update: Ubisoft reached out to inform us that the player number only reflects the number from Steam. In a stream from July 20th, Ubisoft announced that the unique players across all platforms was 1.3 million.
