Etrian Odyssey V, the latest in Atlus’ best non-Persona series, has a release date

by Ron Duwell | August 11, 2017

A half-decade of remakes and spin-offs comes to an end this October with the release of Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth. The latest in Atlus’ excellent handheld RPG series will hit the shelves on Oct. 17, making it the first original, mainline game since Etrian Odyssey IV launched in 2013.

As usual, Atlus will include a handful of goodies for those who pre-order, including:

  • 24-Page Art Book – Beautiful character art and concept sketches by the illustrious Yuji Himukai cover the pages of this magnificent art book. The unique explorers that will fill up your party are a wonder to behold.
  • 6-Track Music CD – A grand journey is utterly droll without music, so get into the adventuring mindset with an enchanting soundtrack crafted by long-time series composer Yuzo Koshiro!
  • Outer Box – The Yggdrasil tree and eager adventurers adorn this colorful outer box which protects the precious treasures it holds within.

For those who have never played it, Etrian Odyssey is Atlus’ best series outside of the Persona games. Each one nails a perfect balance between the challenge of classic first-person dungeon crawlers and the fun of most modern RPGs. The last few years have seen the releases of the Untold remakes and Mystery Dungeon spin-offs, so the first original game in quite some time is a welcome joy for fans in the closing years of the Nintendo 3DS.

Atlus also released a trailer for the Fencer job class.

Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on Oct. 17.
