This latest trailer for the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series is all about the Benjamins. The bling bling. The green. That’s because it’s not a main game from either series but rather a long-running boardgame series in Japan called Itadaki Street.
This series, which is something like Monopoly, has been around for many years and frequently teams up with Japan’s other legendary franchises to help boost sales and celebrate one another’s success. It goes without saying that Dragon Quest is the most frequent collaborator, and Final Fantasy gets a nod occasionally as well.
This year, both are joining hands in this Itadaki Street: Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary entry, celebrating three decades of both franchises And the resulting trailer… it’s just magical.
The Dragon Quest references might go over quite a few heads, given the lack of popularity in the West. However, that Cloud/Sephiroth stuff… oh, it’s so perfect.
Itadaki Street: Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in October in Japan.
