Titanfall 2 “didn’t quite sell as well as it should have,” says studio boss

Titanfall 2 is a really good game with a dynamic, fast, impressive, aggressive and ultimately rewarding multiplayer element. It also has a solid campaign.

It’s unfortunate, then, that it hasn’t really sold as well as EA or Respawn were expecting or hoping.

Gamespot spoke with Titanfall 2 developer Respawn’s boss, Vince Zampella, and he openly addressed the game’s less than amazing sales.

“The game was successful, it sold well, but it didn’t quite sell as well as it should have,” Zampella told Gamespot. “Maybe because it was super-crowded, the pricing was aggressive–it was a rough window to launch our game.”

Everyone online’s been saying that EA elected to put Titanfall 2 out at a terrible time since well before its launch. They put the game directly in between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty. Literally, Titanfall 2 launched in the single week between those two titles during an already packed holiday season.

We all saw the less than amazing sales coming from a mile away, and I’d imagine the folks at Respawn might say the same thing.

Zampella did say that they’re not done with Titanfall.

“It’s important for us to keep the franchise going. ‘We’re doing more Titanfall,’ which is the quote I’m supposed to say. We have our franchise creative director, who’s in charge of safeguarding the franchise in multiple formats and making sure it continues to grow. There’s some other things we’re doing that haven’t been announced just yet, but we’re heavily invested in the Titanfall universe.”

Hopefully whatever they do for it next comes out during a window that makes sense.
