Nintendo has offered an official statement regarding roughly when they’ll offer pre-orders for the SNES Classic Edition. The statement was released on Facebook.
The company indicated that they “appreciate the incredible anticipation” for the SNES Classic, and they “can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month.”
They also say that they’ll have “a significant amount of additional systems” available on launch day and “throughout the balance of the calendar year.” That’s the bit that still gets me, quite frankly. They’re only shipping this thing until the end of 2017.
Here’s the full statement for all context:
We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, and can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month.
A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year.
Pre-orders will be up later this month. Take it from someone who struggled to get an NES Classic, don’t believe Nintendo. Pre-order if you can. Scalpers and supply will almost certainly make this thing hard to get at retail come launch day.
The SNES Classic will launch on September 29, 2017.
