Boy, do I hate the way Nintendo has elected to name the handhelds in its 3DS family. The company has introduced a new Nintendo 2DS to its lineup. This one has been bundled with New Super Mario Bros. 2, the 2D side-scroller in the New brand that places an emphasis on collecting coins.
The bundle will sell for $79.99 starting on August 25, 2017. The new system features a white front and red accents. Sort of like our model, seen below.
Do not confuse the new Nintendo 2DS with the new New Nintendo 2DS XL. That’s the recently released New Nintendo 2DS XL that’s quite good. It’s actually earned a spot in my bag as my daily driver. Here’s what it looks like, for reference.
Why should you even consider the Nintendo 2DS? If you have a younger kid who’s rough on their toys, getting them into gaming at $79.99 is a lot more reasonable than dropping $150 or more. I took the former route, and my son’s 2DS has held up really well.
This is a good deal for parents, but those with more serious gaming taste and the ability to actually carry things without dropping them 30,000 times should look elsewhere.
