PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds getting paid cosmetics based on Battle Royale

If you somehow didn’t figure this out or know about it already, sit down and brace yourselves. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is based loosely on Battle Royale, an aging Japanese flick with a similar premise. Now, the game will pay homage to that inspiration with a set of cosmetic DLC.

The cosmetics will come in the form of crates, and three new ones will be inspired by Battle Royale. The first and second crates (Wanderer Crate and Survivor Crate) will be free, while the third, the Gamescom Invitational Create, will cost actual money. You’ll need a key for $2.50 to snag it.

Here’s what some of the cosmetics will look like.

What would a news update about PUBG be without a little controversy? If you cruise to the comments below the official Steam Update with the news of these skins, you’ll find some extremely salty fans.

“PLS stop this crap!,” one player writes. “Fix your game and serves! I dont give a single fart about new skins if the serves doesnt work anymore since the new update! [sic]”

What do you think? One has to imagine that the folks designing the skins aren’t the same responsible for server problems. If they are, that’s abnormal.
