For years, dating all the way back to the Nintendo 64, console developers and critics alike have used Pixar as the standard to decide when video games have “made it.” The logic goes when you look like you’re playing a Pixar game, then yes… video games have indeed become the most graphically capable medium on the market.
Thanks to Kingdom Hearts III, we’re now there!
A new batch of screenshots show off Kingdom Hearts III and its excellent use of the Unreal Engine 4, revealing that all of the extra time sunk into the game has really paid off.
The two worlds displayed are Toy Story World, which will tell an original story tucked in between Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, and Disney’s Ancient Greece from Hercules. The last time I played a Kingdom Hearts game, ancient Greece was just an arena where you could fight Sephiroth. You better believe I beat him, also.
Kingdom Hearts III will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018
