DOOM’s paid DLC is now free for eternity in update 6.66

As one of the best and biggest surprises of 2016, DOOM has been out for a year now, and id Software has had enough of charging you for it. The main game will still set you back a few pennies on a digital sale, but from here on out, the DLC will be entirely free!

The deal comes to us through the aptly named “update 6.66.” All three multiplayer chapters “Unto the Evil,” “Hell Followed,” and “Bloodfall” are now available for everyone, and id Software has even updated the way character progression works.

With this update, we’ve changed when and how players unlock additional guns, demons, equipment and all of the player and weapon customization options. Instead of relying on the current random unlock system, everything now unlocks through specific leveling requirements and/or in-game challenges. Now, if there’s a specific helmet you want, you can work toward unlocking it by focusing your play style on the related challenge. We’re confident new and veteran players alike will enjoy the control and predictability in this new multiplayer progression system.

DOOM is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The multiplayer portion of the game is free-to-play all weekend, so be sure to check it out if you’re interested.
