Those hoping for a Bixby-powered smart speaker may be out of luck. According to The Investor, Samsung’s decided against launching the product anytime soon, because it feels that the “the global market is dominated by Amazon and the Korean market is too small to make profits.”

With the Echo holding a 70 percent share in the global market, it’s difficult to imagine a world where the Bixby Speaker, which is rumored to have identical functions to Amazon’s offering, is capable of winning over any existing customers — so Samsung appears to have made the right decision.

Exciting times ahead for the domestic helper

That doesn’t mean the firm’s going to stop development of the product, because it isn’t. Instead, it’s going to focus its efforts on finding a way to bake the Bixby Speaker into various upcoming smart home appliances, including ovens, refrigerators and washing machines.
