Flagship Nokia 8 said to pack Snapdragon 835 chip, 4GB of RAM

Nokia and its manufacturing partner HMD Global are reportedly planning a flagship Nokia 8 handset powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB of RAM. Certain variants of the device, which was previously labeled the Nokia 9, will also offer dual rear-facing cameras.

We’ve been patiently waiting for Nokia to deliver a high-end handset since it reentered the smartphone business. Its most recent Android devices have all been aimed at consumers who need more affordable options. Now WinFuture reports that HMD Global, which manufactures smartphones under the Nokia brand, is hard at work on the Nokia 8.

Citing reliable sources, the site claims the Nokia 8 will deliver the flagship features we’ve been looking forward to, including Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 5.7-inch Quad HD display. It is also believed that HMD will offer a dual-SIM model, while some variants will be available with dual rear-facing cameras.

We can catch a glimpse of the device alongside other Nokia handsets in the marketing video below. This briefly appeared on Vimeo before being pulled, but reliable leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) managed to grab a copy that was later uploaded to Twitter.

The Nokia 8 is expected to launch with the model number TA-1004. Previous rumors have labeled this the Nokia 9, but WinFuture claims Nokia and HMD have settled on Nokia 8 instead. It also says we can expect at least four color options — blue, steel (silver), gold/copper, and gold/blue — and prices are expected to start around €600 (approx. $688) in Europe.

According to information gleaned from retail sources, the report adds that the Nokia 8 could make its official debut on July 31. None of this has been confirmed by Nokia or HMD, so take it with a pinch of salt for now. But if you’ve been waiting for a Nokia flagship to arrive, it might be time to get your credit card ready.
