Sharp’s next bezel-less flagship spotted in the wild

Sharp was one of the first major companies to introduce a smartphone that featured a bezel-less display, and it looks like the company has a new model on the horizon.

An image of an unidentified device supposedly made by Sharp has appeared on Weibo, giving is a small idea of what’s to come. As the image suggests, the phone will feature an edge-to-edge display that’s a lot like the other edge-to-edge displays we’ve seen from Samsung and LG. However, there is one key difference.

Similar to the Essential Phone, there appears to be a cutout where the front-facing camera sits, which is nice for those who like to take selfies, but a little unsightly for information that might appear in the notification bar up top.

The device also looks to feature a rigid metal frame, while the source who posted the photo claims the device will feature a rear-facing fingerprint sensor.

Other than that, it’s tough to ascertain what Sharp’s mystery device will offer. When the company launched the Aquos Crystal a few years ago, it offered one of the sleekest designs on the market, but failed to make an impression from a performance standpoint. Hopefully, this year’s device will have the specs to match the beautiful design.

Sharp is expected to unveil its new flagship, along with another mid-range handset, on July 17, so we should know more very soon.
