Waze for iOS receives its strangest update yet

Following its arrival on Android a couple of months ago, Waze for iOS received an unusual update on Tuesday, bringing you the facility to receive turn-by-turn directions in your own voice.

That’s not even the best bit (yes, I’m being sarcastic). The firm’s also giving you the option to share your custom-made voice commands with your family and friends — because that’s exactly what your elderly mother wants to hear.

It’s all a little bit strange if you ask me. Just imagine offering someone an impromptu lift, then trying to explain why Waze is yelling instructions in your own voice. It’s going to be a little bit awkward, to say the least.

Even worse, pretend it’s a date. I’m not sure about you, but if someone came to pick me up and their Sat Nav is tuned to the tone of their voice, I’d think they’re a little self-obsessed.

I guess what I’m trying to say is if you’re hoping to woo someone, steer clear of this feature. You never know when you might need to give someone a lift.
