Windows 10 can now be unlocked with a Samsung Galaxy

Own a Galaxy S8 and a Windows 10 computer? You can now combine the two to rid yourself of complex passwords. Thanks to Samsung’s latest Flow app, you can login to a compatible PC simply by scanning your fingerprint with your smartphone.

Samsung confirmed back in February that it would be updating Flow to support Windows Hello on all Windows 10 computers. The application previously supported only Samsung’s own Galaxy TabPro S. Now the update is here and available to download from Google Play.

To enjoy fingerprint unlocking, you’ll need a PC running the latest Windows 10 Creators Update, plus a compatible Galaxy smartphone or tablet running Android Marshmallow or later. You will then need to install Samsung Flow on your smartphone, plus the companion app on your PC — which you can get from the Windows Store.

Here is the list of compatible devices:

  • Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+
  • Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge
  • Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+
  • Galaxy Note 5
  • Galaxy A5, Galaxy S7
  • Galaxy Tab S3

In addition to fingerprint unlocking, Samsung Flow will allow you to view your smartphone or tablet notifications on your PC, sync files and documents, and seamlessly enable a hotspot connection.
