Halo’s next major title won’t be revealed “for quite some time”

We’re a ways off from the next major Halo game. That comes directly from the lead studio on the Halo franchise, 343 Industries.

In a large post that summarizes a lot of information, 343 talks a bit about E3. They touch on the potential of the Xbox One X (in an obviously positive light given their first-party nature), the Halo Wars 2 expansion and the next big Halo.

Succinctly, they indicate that they “won’t be talking about Halo‘s next major title for quite some time.” This comes after rumors spread about a potential Halo remake that would show up at the show last week.

Here’s exactly what 343 has to say on the matter:

That being said, for some people – like most who are still reading this blog – the Xbox media briefing was bandied about as much for what it didn’t show, as what it did. Specifically, a new (or old-made-new) Halo title. For some folks, their despair stemmed from a lack of remastered fight-finishing. I know I know, we should have told you ahead of time to not expect anything like that. Others were hoping for a tease of things farther off to come. While there’s little to nothing that can be said on that front, it’s been made clear that we won’t be talking about Halo’s next major title for quite some time. And no, that doesn’t mean Gamescom. Or PAX. Trust us, when we’re ready to begin pulling back that proverbial curtain, you’ll know. It won’t be soon.

Don’t expect anything at Gamescom or PAX. Don’t expect anything for a while. If I had to guess, maybe we’ll get a tease at E3 next year.

For now, all bets are off on seeing the next marquee Halo title any time soon.
