It’s been two years since Capcom first announced the Resident Evil 2 remake. The project has gone totally dark since then, and in that time frame, Resident Evil 7 released, the film franchise came to an end, and even Final Fantasy VII Remake has put out more news than it.
Capcom is still tight-lipped on the project, and it doesn’t have too much to say other than it is coming “soon.” Speaking with Collider about the upcoming CGI movie Resident Evil: Vendetta, Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi brought the game up but only in passing.
The only thing I can tell you is about something that’s already out in the public. Resident Evil 2, a remade version of the game, will be out from Capcom soon.
Don’t want to mess up a fan-favorite
Still, that’s the most we’ve gotten from Capcom in two years, so I’ll take what I can get. Obviously, it’s a sensitive subject matter since remaking games is never as easy as one might think, and it comes with the added baggage of being one of the more popular Resident Evil games. It’s one of those remakes that you have to get perfectly right, just like the first Resident Evil remake did.
Capcom will get around to it, and we’ll be playing within a few years. It’s hardly the same undertaking as Final Fantasy VII Remake, so I believe we’ll see more of it sooner than later.
