Robert Hwang, CEO of iPhone assembler Wiston, reportedly confirmed during the firm’s annual shareholders’ meeting that the iPhone 8 will be waterproof and have wireless charging capabilities.
“Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much, though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing,” Hwang told reporters on Wednesday.
This news hardly comes as a surprise, though. Ever since we first caught wind that Apple was working on “something special” for the iPhone 8, tons of rumors have been bandied around claiming that it will support wireless charging.
The handset is also expected to sport a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display with an integrated Touch ID sensor, an in-house A11 processor, 3D facial recognition technology and a vertically-positioned dual-lens camera.
Apple could announce the iPhone 8 in September
It looks like Apple will announce the iPhone 8 alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus in September. However, there’s a pretty good chance you’re not going to be interested in picking one up as it’s said to carry a price tag of $1,000.
