When the Galaxy Note FE is released later this summer, it could come with a key Galaxy S8 feature, according to a report out of South Korea. And speaking of a summer release, the same report claims to know the exact launch date of the “Fan Edition” device.
ETNews says the handset—which is a refurbished version of the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7—will feature Bixby and, more importantly, its Voice feature, a key component of the Korean company’s digital assistant.
Samsung has yet to launch Bixby’s voice functionality here in the U.S., reportedly because the service is struggling to understand English, but the assistant is alive and well in South Korea.
Chances are, Samsung had plans to roll out Bixby support to the Note 7 before it was recalled, but that didn’t exactly pan out. As a consolation, the digital assistant will be available for the Note FE, which is a good move from Samsung. We also fully expect Bixby to be available for the Note 8 when it launches later this year.
Additionally, the same ETNews report claims the Galaxy Note FE could launch on July 7, which is only a few weeks away. Samsung reportedly has plans to sell as many as 450,000 units when they go on sale next month—and at $600 a pop. Unfortunately, there don’t appear to be any plans to launch the device here in the U.S.
Samsung has yet to confirm the Galaxy Note FE’s existence, but it’s been a topic of rumors over the past few months. With a July launch allegedly on the docket, we should know more very soon.
