Microsoft’s new and improved Surface Pen is now available to pre-order ahead of its official debut later this month. Announced alongside the new Surface Pro, it delivers enhanced performance and increased levels of pressure sensitivity.
The new Surface Pen shares a lot in common with Apple Pencil, which is likely what Microsoft was aiming for. Input latency has been reduced to just 21 milliseconds, making it virtually lag-free. In comparison, Apple’s device — which is praised for being incredibly responsive — has a 20-millisecond latency. Both devices also cost the same at $99.
But what will make the new Surface Pen a must-have for some artists and designers is its whopping 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity for increased detail. Tilt detection has also been improved, and the device now comes in new colors — including burgundy, platinum, cobalt blue, and black.
The new Surface Pen is compatible with any Surface device, and any other laptop or tablet with an N-trig display. You can pre-order yours now from the Microsoft Store, and shipping is expected to begin on June 15.
