The factory unlocked Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are now available to purchase in the United States through Best Buy and Samsung, with pricing set at $724.99 for the former and $824.99 for the latter.
As a reminder, the unlocked versions are only up for grabs in the Midnight Black color option, and, of course, pack the same internals as their respective carrier-branded models.
Unlocked handsets aren’t so great
It’s worth pointing out that while these variants give you the option to switch carriers as and when you choose, they do have a pretty major drawback: slow updates.
Samsung has a history of putting carrier-branded models first when it comes to software upgrades. Whether they’re minor or major releases, they typically arrive on unlocked handsets last.
Just something to bear in mind if you’re thinking of picking one up.
