Now we’ve had time to adjust to the Galaxy S8, we thought we’d share some tips for getting started.
Change the screen resolution
The Galaxy S8 sports a gorgeous Infinity Display. By default, its resolution is set to FHD+ (2220 x 1080 pixels), but by opening up Settings, heading into Display and selecting Screen Resolution, you can change it to WQHD+ (2960 x 1440 pixels).
Disable the app drawer
If you’re coming from an iPhone, you’ll be used to seeing all of your applications displayed on the home screen. However, Android takes a slightly different approach to app management by storing them in a dedicated drawer.
Fortunately, Samsung’s made it possible to show all of your apps on the home screen by removing the app drawer. All you need to do is long-press the home screen, tap Home Screen Settings, select Home Screen Layout, then choose Home Screen Only.
Rearrange the order of the on-screen buttons
Samsung opted for a set of on-screen buttons for the Galaxy S8, but instead of arranging them in the traditional Android order (Back, Home and Recents), the firm introduced its own, slightly unnatural configuration (Recents, Home and Back).
The good news is you have the option to rearrange the keys. Simply open Settings, press Display, followed by Navigation Bar, hit Button Layout, then select Back – Home – Recents.
Sort your apps alphabetically
One of the most frustrating things about TouchWiz is that it doesn’t sort applications alphabetically. A simple tweak will change the way it operates, though; toggle the app drawer, select the three dots in the upper-right corner, press Sort and choose Alphabetical Order.
Turn on Easy Mode for a more simple experience
If you aren’t particularly tech-savvy, you’ll love Easy Mode. Not only does it enlarge fonts, buttons and icons throughout the entire OS, it also strips away all of the confusing features baked into the home screen, in order to deliver the simplest user experience possible.
To activate Easy Mode, locate and select the Display subheading in the Settings application, tap Easy Mode and press Apply. That’s all there is to it.
