Destiny 2 dropping those dumb Grimoire cards, putting lore in the game

Say goodbye to Grimoire cards, Destiny fans.

You want to know what was almost universally disliked in the original Destiny? Those stupid Grimoire cards. You earned them in-game, and they basically contained bits and pieces of universe and world-building lore. You know, lore? The actual way game makers can build the stories in their games?

The Grimoire cards weren’t available in the game. No. You had to get on a PC, tablet or mobile phone and log into your account to read the ones you unlocked. Talk about bogus.

Those cards won’t be present in Destiny 2. Here’s Bungie’s World Lead, Steve Cotton, speaking with Forbes when asked if they’ll be back.

“The answer to that question is ‘no’ and the reason it’s ‘no’ is because we want to put the lore in the game.

We want people to be able to find the lore. All the story is told through the Adventures, it’s told through the characters in the world, it’s told through the campaign and it’s told through scannables you find throughout the world.”

Good decision, Bungie

Yeah, those cards were pretty bogus. The game should be experienced on its own, not with redirects to websites, comics or whatever else.

I applaud this choice, and it’s actually making me more excited for Destiny 2.
