Say goodbye to Google’s ugly blob emojis

Google’s ugly blob emojis are finally going away.

One of the more welcome surprises we saw from Android O at Google I/O was the introduction of brand new emojis. They resemble the ones found in iOS and other smartphones. The other themed emojis portraying specific jobs also got more detailed with darker shades and stronger colors.

Overall, the new emojis are more pleasing to the eye.

The blob emojis had been around since Android 4.4 and have largely looked the same ever since. Android O will usher in a new era of emojis and Google promised it will push out a feature that will let non-Android O devices install the new designs as well. It’s a mystery why Google stuck with its ugly blob emojis for so long, but now they’ll soon be gone. Good riddance.
