Windjammers open beta test runs from June 8 to 12

by Ron Duwell | May 19, 2017

While most of the classic NeoGeo games are thriving on the underpopulated Nintendo Switch these days thanks to Hamster Corporation, Windjammers is dancing to its own beat by jumping to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. DotEmu, the company handling this version of the arcade cult-classic sports game, will be running an open best from June 8 to 12 to test servers and performance.

Interested gamers will be able to register on the game’s official website. June 5 is the deadline to register.

Initially launched on arcade cabinet and NeoGeo, Windjammers is the mix of a sports game and fighting game where challengers face each other on a field and throw a Frisbee at the opponent’s goal zone to score points. The player with the most points wins. Discover in exclusivity, through this Beta, the new online ranking mode giving the chance to gamers of all over the world to compete against each other. This closed BETA will help us test the online mode and the matchmaking system.

Windjammers should be the next new “old” hotness

This deceptively simple sports game is beloved by a devoted fan base around the world, but it has never really gotten the chance to make a leap to a larger audience. This is thanks to its late arrival on the arcade scene and its restriction to the underperforming NeoGeo console. Now that it will be on the world’s best-selling video gaming console, maybe it has an eSports league in its future.

Windjammers will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, but it has no launch window attached to it yet.
