iPhone 8 dummy unit appears in the wild, looks like the real deal

Here it is: The iPhone 8 in all of its glory. BGR acquired a handful of photos of an “iPhone 8 mockup,” which allegedly displays the device’s final design. In other words, this is what consumers will see when the handset is released this holiday season.

It looks a lot like the numerous renders and concepts we’ve seen over the past few weeks, with a vertical dual camera setup and what appears to be a glass back. Because the device is a dummy unit, we can’t tell what the display looks like, but rumor has it it’ll feature an OLED panel and virtually no bezels.

The frame features a shiny, rounded aluminum, somewhat similar to what we saw in the original iPhone—there’s a chance Apple may anodize the frame with different colors before the iPhone 8 is released. There doesn’t appear to be a fingerprint sensor anywhere in sight, suggesting Apple has figured out a way to embed it beneath the display.

Considering the amount of rumors we’ve seen over the past several weeks, the alleged design isn’t all that surprising. What’s curious is the power button looks to be more elongated than usual, though it’s unclear why. Perhaps it’ll serve some kind of function beyond acting as a sleep/wake button.

It’s a sleek design, to be sure, but it doesn’t really tell us anything beyond what we already know. What we’re most excited to find out is whether the device will feature a “function area” and AR capabilities. The device isn’t just expected to be stuffed with next generation technology, but next generation features, too.

We’re still months away from the iPhone 8’s debut, but rumors have been so rampant that we seemingly know everything about the device. Now, it’s just a matter of Apple unveilling the device, which will likely come at an event in September.

Until then, feast your eyes on the images above. What do you think of the iPhone 8’s supposed final design?
