Google Home now offers hands-free calling

by Brandon Russell | May 17, 2017

You can now use the Google Home speaker to make phone calls—just like the Amazon Echo.

The caveat here is that Home will only support outgoing calls at launch. Being able to receive calls should roll out over the coming months. The goal here is to provide people with a hands-free way to talk to friends, family and more.

What’s cool is that if you have multi-user support setup on Home, just pair your phone number and Home will recognize who’s trying to make a call. Take that, Alexa.

The new feature comes with a host of new additions to Home, including the ability to schedule new calendar appointments and create reminders, more smart home support, and support for Spotify’s free music tier.
