Haemimont Games, the developer best known for the Tropico series, has a new game on the way that offers the same overhead perspective on a very different world. Surviving Mars, Haemimont Games says, is a “sci-fi settlement builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process.”
In the game, you’ll have to make decisions like which space agency you want to work with, as well as figuring the best way to grow food, obtain materials on a planet with an unbreatheable atmosphere, and develop technology to make this all possible.
Space is awesome
Tropico has never really resonated with me. Something about being a dictator just never rang my bell. Colonizing Mars, though, sounds like a blast. Like the kind of blast that occurs when a pressurized chamber depressurizes.
If they can get the balance between survival and progress right, this could be a really fun game with a lot of replayability.
Surviving Mars is set to release sometime in 2018, and the team is aiming for Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
