Halo 6 won’t be at E3 2017, but we’ll see “a little something” else

If you’re hoping to see Halo 6 at E3 this year, I’m going to disappoint you. No, Halo 6 will not be there. Halo community manager Brian Jarrard confirmed this in response to a comment on Reddit late last week.

Microsoft has previously said that 2017 won’t see a new Halo or Gears of War game released, so this news tracks with that, but it dashes hopes of a reveal of next year’s games, as well. Microsoft has been burned a few times in the recent past by showing games like Crackdown 3 and Scalebound too early, so while we have no doubt Halo 6 development is in full swing, it makes sense that they’re waiting to reveal it.

We’ll have a little something

Jarrard did say, though, that 343 Industries, the developer behind recent Halo games, would have “a little something at E3.” What could that be? Our money is in Halo 3 Anniversary.

Microsoft has already done remakes of the first two Halo titles, but it’s been a few years since we’ve heard anything about those, so the timing is right.

Another possibility could see Microsoft bringing Halo to its Xbox Play Anywhere program, which allows owners of Xbox One titles that are also on PC to play them on both platforms and, sometimes, even cross-platform between Xbox One and PC. Seeing Microsoft bring Halo 5: Guardians or Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PC would be no surprise.

E3 2017 goes from June 13-15, but Microsoft’s press conference is on Sunday, June 11, which is when we’ll see whatever it is 343 has on offer.
