There will be a new Need for Speed before the end of 2017. We first got word of the news through an email from EA, but that email included a link to a blog post directly from Ghost Games with the story.
Ghost Games, as the source of the news, is obviously the house behind the upcoming title. They offer that they aren’t ready to get into any specifics yet, but that we’ll know more about the game’s mechanics at EA Play, EA’s near-E3 event coming this June.
We do know a few details, though. This game will make use of the cops that the series has become known for. It’ll also feature some level of customization as well as “a new drivable world,” according to the PR rep that contacted us.
Oh, and about that always-online requirement?
The next Need for Speed will have a fully offline single player campaign complete with the option to, brace yourselves, pause the game. The future, my friends, is now. Here’s how Ghost Games puts it.
Let’s finish on one of the biggest discussion points around the last game: always-online. To say that this is a topic you’re passionate about would be an understatement, and whenever there’s a topic that gathers as much attention and feedback from you as this did, we take note.
So, when release day rolls around for the next Need for Speed, you will be able to play through a single player experience completely offline. Before you ask, and we know you will, this does mean you will be able to pause the game.
We’ll have more on this upcoming Need for Speed as it comes.
