Women in Sci-fi: Born Sexy Yesterday trope created in great video essay

There are certain things in films that happen constantly as plot devices. These are called tropes. This goes for movies, games, comics, books, television shows, plays, you get the gist. Essentially, anything with a narrative that has a lot of entries likely has tropes.

YouTube channel¬†Pop Culture Detective took a look at a specific trope in sci-fi for female characters. They’re innocent and attractive, and the trope is named “Born Sexy Yesterday.” Have a watch. The clip is long, so it’s good weekend viewing.

The only downside about having these tropes pointed out? You’ll notice them constantly. This is a fairly standard character trope, too, and one that I’d noticed but never really considered. As the video rolled on, I found myself mentally identifying¬†plenty of flicks that use the same trope, too.

It’s everywhere.
