Nintendo wants more than one Switch per household

I mean, really, doesn’t every product manufacturer actually want their product to be purchased multiple times per household? That makes sense for some products, too. Home game consoles, though? Sure, it happens, but at the same rate as, say, a smartphone or tablet?

Nintendo wants the Nintendo Switch to be purchased more than once by the same household. They want that console doubled and tripled by some families.

In a recent investor Q&A, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima explained that they’re hoping to match the popularity of the Wii in this regard.

“Considering that Nintendo Switch is a home console video game system that you can take with you on the go so you can play anytime, anywhere, with anyone, we think there will be households that feel as though one is not really enough…

…This is another point that drives us to match the scale of Wii’s popularity with Nintendo Switch.”

At $300, though?

If and when the Nintendo Switch drops in price by around $100, I can see the benefit of having more than one per home. Its handheld nature alone makes that desirable.

At $300 for just the console, though, I’m not sure Nintendo can reach that sort of market penetration yet. What do you think?
