“Our PopCap Studio in Seattle continues to be home to amazingly creative teams,” said PopCap general manager Matt Nutt in a public letter. “But we need to evolve to ensure our big ideas are going to continue to excite and give players more of what we do best – inspiring the world to play, together.”
The studio is refocusing
The studio isn’t closing, but it is letting some staff go as well as “refocusing on key titles and new projects.” I’m going to guess that some unannounced games are getting canned as part of this change.
Nutt ends the letter saying that the studio will both be working on new projects and “working to deliver more fo some of our existing Bejeweled and Plants vs. Zombies titles.” Nutt doesn’t elaborate in the letter as to how many developers were let go.
