Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood still has the most drool-worthy screenshots in gaming

There’s only one game out there that I love screenshots for more than Koei Tecmo’s Nioh, and it comes from none other than Square Enix. Final Fantasy XIV’s screenshots are always a blast to pour through, and they are the highlight of my job whenever a batch is ready to be published.

This new story from Square Enix’s successful MMORPG sees the Heroes of Light travel to a far off land in the East to help liberate a land from the oppressive Garlean Empire.

Having brought an end to the thousand-year conflict between dragon and man in the north, the Warrior of Light and his comrades prepare to liberate Ala Mhigo, a land conquered by the Garlean Empire twenty years ago. Meanwhile, in the Far East, the freedom fighters of the fallen nation of Doma struggle to rekindle the fires of hope in their countrymen.

Final Fantasy kung fu!

This latest batch of screenshots from the Stormblood expansion is okay. I think the game has lost a bit of its original touch since the influence of samurai tales and martial art epics take away from the classic Final Fantasy setting that A Realm Reborn exuded flawlessly.

Still, there’s a lot to love here, and the clash of old school Final Fantasy style and the new setting makes for an interesting setup at least.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will be released on PlayStation 4 and PC on June 20.
