Mario Kart 8 Deluxe might not be an entirely new game, but that hasn’t stopped fans from flocking to it on the Nintendo Switch. According to Amazon, the recent Nintendo Switch re-release is currently the best-selling game of 2017, beating out heavy-hitters like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Over at the website, only gift cards for $10 and $20 for PlayStation Network are beating out Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the best-selling gaming products of the year. And if Amazon’s list is reflective of the gaming market as a whole, then The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn’t the only Switch game that is destined to have an absurd attachment rate of above 100 percent.
The console ranks 5th on the list below both titles, probably on account that it is not as readily available as the games themselves.
Mario Kart has always been a console-seller
Nintendo can always count on the luring power of Mario Kart to reel in a consistent audience for its new hardware launches. Dating all the way back to the days of the Nintendo 64, the franchise has never failed to crack the top 3 best-selling games on a Nintendo console or handheld. In fact, on the Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS, Mario Kart tops the best-selling list of non-pack-in games making it clearly Nintendo’s most successful franchise over the last decade and a half not called Pokémon.
No surprises that this success will carry over onto the Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available to pick up and play now.
