Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches today for the Nintendo Switch. This enhanced Wii U port includes a higher resolution, a few new characters, a brand new Battle Mode and all of the DLC from Mario Kart 8.
The launch trailer highlights all of those features, including the ability to carry two items at once, a first since Double Dash on the GameCube.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe solves our biggest gripe
My biggest fault with the original Mario Kart 8 was the complete lack of a proper Battle Mode. They had a Battle Mode, of sorts, that simply occurred on standard courses set in the game. Nothing fancy, just Balloon Battle on the same tracks you race on in Grand Prix.
This is pure Battle Mode with multiple game types and completely unique arenas. Quite frankly, it’s what we should have had on the Wii U.
