Jeff Goldblum will return in the Jurassic World sequel

As the foremost expert in mathematics and chaos theory, Dr. Ian Malcolm was Jurassic Park’s biggest cynic. He predicted things would go awry, and provided some of the film’s most memorable quotes. Even when he wasn’t speaking, his mannerisms and creepy laugh kept audiences on the edge of their seat—which is why we’re excited the character will be returning in the upcoming sequel to Jurassic World.

Played by Jeff Goldblum, the character was known for his smug arrogance and comic relief. His appearance in The Lost World: Jurassic Park saw a more somber, serious take on the character, so we’re not really sure which version of Dr. Malcolm we’ll see. Either way, Goldblum pretty much transcends whichever character he plays, so it doesn’t really matter.

Virtually no details are known about the sequel, other than it should be scarier and more intense. Considering Dr. Malcolm is often a critic of Jurassic Park and the idea of man-made dinosaurs, it will be interesting to see how he gets sucked back into the franchise. Maybe after injuring his leg in the first movie, he has unfinished business.

In case you need a refresher on who Dr. Ian Malcolm is and why he’s the franchise’s best/worst character, feast your eyes on these videos.

Jurassic World 2 will be directed by J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) and star Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Justice Smith, Toby Jones, and James Cromwell. The film is currently slated for a release on June 22, 2018. And if that isn’t enough Goldblum for you, the actor is appearing in Thor: Ragnarok as The Grandmaster.
