Square Enix finally seemed like it was getting itself together with ambitious projects after wrapping up the mess of Final Fantasy XV in a semi-timely manner with a new director, but here we are, once again, with two more projects that could take half a decade or more to push to completion.
If you were hoping to play Final Fantasy VII Remake or Kingdom Hearts III before the end of 2017, then I’m afraid I have bad news that really shouldn’t even be “news” in the first place. Rather, “restating the obvious” sounds better. NeoGAF users picked up Square Enix’s most recent investor briefing, and it lists all of the games that will be available during its 2018 financial year, running from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.
And guess which two games are nowhere present on that list.
Yup, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III. Also missing is the Avengers game that Square Enix is contracted to make. All three games are listed as FY 2018 and beyond, meaning that at least Q2 at the very earliest.
The PlayStation 5 might have its first AAA title at this pace
I mean, I don’t need a release date for these games at the moment. I just need something, anything at all! Gameplay videos, screenshots, release plans, RPG systems, combat systems. Hoping to get a release date at this point is ambitious at best and naive at worst.
Anything that shows progress would be nice at this point. If it’s neither game is at E3 2017 in some substantial capacity, this is getting slapped with a “Versus XIII watch and wait” tag.
