You can now stream Google Play Movies and TV in 4K on the NVIDIA Shield TV

At long last, NVIDIA has updated its Shield TV with compatibility for 4K streaming from Google Play Movies and TV, making it easier than ever to watch your favorite films in Ultra HD on the big screen.

The upgrade also bundles 4K Google Cast support, enabling you to send 4K content from any Cast-enabled application — like Netflix — to your TV.

We should probably point out that Amazon Prime Video customers won’t be able to take advantage of the Google Cast functionality, because of how the Chromecast competes with Amazon’s own Fire TV.

Wait! What’s a Shield TV?

If you’ve read this far into the story and are completely unaware of the Shield TV, it’s NVIDIA’s Android TV set-top box, which not only supports 4K media streaming, but also smart home automation and PC gaming.
