The Last Jedi director made a key change to Kylo Ren

While people were picking apart the first teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, some eagle-eyed fans noticed an interesting change to Kylo Ren. One that director Rian Johnson said was made because he simply thought the change looked better.

Possible spoilers ahead

Remember when Rey slashed Kylo Ren in the face, leaving him with an ugly scar down the bridge of his nose? Well, people quickly realized the resulting scar is different than what was shown in The Force Awakens.

Here’s a Twitter exchange with one fan, in which Johnson called the previous scar “goofy.”

So, Kylo Ren’s scar has officially been altered, which is a small and ultimately insignificant change. Disney and Lucasfilm are obviously fine with Johnson’s decision, otherwise it would be in its original position.

We’ll be seeing a lot of Kylo Ren’s face in The Last Jedi—I mean, it looks like he destroys his own helmet—which means the scar will be a prominent and visual reminder of his defeat to Rey. It would be a real shame if the “goofy” scar became a distraction, so it was changed.

Kylo Ren isn’t the only character to feature a prominent scar; Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, also featured a scar over his right eye. So, Kylo Ren has truly taken his fandom of his grandfather to the next level.
